Following the implementation of the new Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS), all relevant employers were requested to submit monthly PAYE returns via the online portal from March 2019 onwards. Notwithstanding the successful online registration and submission from countless employers, the Ministry of Finance received various requests to postpone the deadline for anticipated online submissions
In an official press release dated 19 April, the Ministry of Finance confirmed the decision to grant employers more time to prepare, complete and successfully submit their online PAYE returns. According to the press release, employers will be allowed to manually submit PAYE returns until September 2019, after which online submission will be mandatory for all. All employers who choose to submit manual returns until the extended date should note that these returns will still have to be updated on ITAS by uploading the electronic ETX data file (excel spreadsheet created by ITAS) before the end of September. Given last mentioned, employers are urged to register and submit their monthly PAYE returns on the online portal as soon as possible, as continued manual submissions will only result in a backlog of outstanding electronic versions at a later stage.
